- - In Vancouver, WA store, my 9-month service dog in training barked.
- - I was told to leave and can't return with a service dog because I felt discriminated.
I was in the store on 4th Plain in Vancouver, Washington, and I have a puppy I'm training to be my service dog. He is 9 months old.
Well, on 08/01/2024, in the afternoon, we were in the store buying something like we do every day. My puppy saw another little dog and he barked. Then, the other dog turned around and went the other way. So, I went up to pay for my stuff and a woman said my dog was aggressive and she feared for her life.
My dog didn't do anything to her. She was being rude, as were the cashier and the manager. The manager of the store told me, I had to leave and that I could not bring my dog back in there. I told her to call the police and bring up the video, because my dog didn't do anything wrong to the 3 ladies.
I felt discriminated against and profiled. I was told that I can't come back with my service dog, and yet I'm in the store every day buying something with my puppy next to me in the store!

Verified Reviewer |Was was verbally attacked by management as other manager on duty and other employee also verbally attacked me
- - Discrimination and harassment by management create a hostile workplace.
- - Lack of disability accommodation harmed training and housing.
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to bring attention to a matter that deeply concerns me regarding the employment practices within particularly in the Southern California region.
During my tenure with the company, I have experienced and witnessed numerous instances of unethical conduct, fostering a hostile work environment.
There have been accepted practices of discrimination, harassment, and verbal attacks from both management and upper management, not only towards employees but also in the presence of customers. These behaviors, unfortunately, have been repeatedly condoned and accepted, fostering an intolerable work atmosphere.
Moreover, my personal experience seeking employment during a period of need and rehabilitation due to a disability has been met with non-accommodation. This lack of support extended to protective work activities, which were crucial for my rehabilitation process. The absence of necessary accommodations ultimately led to the forfeiture of vital job training, thereby hindering my ability to secure housing.
The discrepancy between the projected image of the company's values in the media and the harsh reality of the work environment is striking.
It appears that the corporation's code of conduct, seemingly upheld in public portrayal, is not consistent with the treatment of individuals within the organization.
Rather than providing a nurturing and inclusive environment, individuals like myself are subject to scrutiny, harassment, discrimination, and a lack of accommodations for disabilities.
This discrepancy raises serious concerns about the ethical integrity of the organization and its commitment to providing an equitable and supportive workplace for all employees, especially those with disabilities seeking understanding and accommodation.
I am bringing this matter to your attention in the hope that a thorough review and subsequent actions will be taken to rectify these issues. I believe that addressing these concerns will not only benefit the affected individuals but also significantly enhance the organization's credibility and adherence to ethical standards.

Verified Reviewer |Resolved: I didn't like the woman's attitude.
- - They wouldn't hold furniture for two days after payment.
- - A staff member spoke in a sarcastic tone.
- - The customer won't shop there anymore.
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. The woman lied to me so the manager John made it right.
I called corporate and I was told someone would call me back, yeah right that didn't happen.
I have gone to Goodwill in Williston just about every Sunday for the past couple of years and they have held the larger pieces of furniture for up to 3 days for me before. Now all of a sudden they don't do that and that woman's attitude was horrible towards me.
If she doesn't like her job then maybe she should quit, she should not be in retail!! I won't buy anything there anymore and my sister won't either and now my neighbors are a bit confused as to why they won't hold furniture for 2 days after it's paid for.
Preferred solution: A phone call like I was promised!

Verified Reviewer |Rude and inconsiderate staff
- - Staff scolded a customer over discounts.
- - I was treated rudely at checkout over hangers and a canceled transaction; manager blamed me.
My first experience when I moved to Culpeper and visited the Culpeper town Goodwill was not pleasant at all. As I was checking out I overheard a staff member scolding another customer.
The customer had ask if there was an extra discount for the merchandise she was purchasing, to what the staff member reply "if you don't have enough money, don't come to buy anything". I experience her rudeness myself, when she intervene in my conversation I was having with a family member and so she stated that she understood what we were talking about and that the price was correct. My second encounter with her was when she in a very rude way asked me why I did not have the hangers of the clothing I was buying, while making the payment, she kept canceling the transaction and went on to say that I had make a phone call to have my bank deposit money to my account in order for me to be able to pay once the transaction went through at another station. All this was done in the presence of other customers.
When I requested to have a manager come and talk to me, she went on and left the front of the store and told her story to whom I believe to be her supervisor. Her supervisor came out and immediately assumed that I was the one who was rude to her and told me that customer should not be rude to the staff members.
When I explained to her what had happened. She continued telling me that customers are a lot of the times the ones that are rude and that it should not be that way.
I believe they should be trained to have a nice attitude towards everyone, not matter where people are from, because I noticed that the cashier picks and chooses who she wants to be nice to.

- - User reports household members were disabled from using shopgoodwill.com.
- - User notes a policy of one account per household.
Because of me everyone in my household was disabled from using shopgoodwill.com Is it stated in policy "one account per household?" This doesn't seem to be fair and if it's not a posted rule should it be utilized.

- - Long checkout line with one cashier and delays at jewelry counter.
- - Devon called for a manager; no one came, and the customer won't be back.
After coming into the Goodwill number store 5555 I was not going to stand in the line of six people with only one person doing check out, so I decided to go to the jewelry counter and waited several minutes as one of the employees finally was begging to come and service me. She was not servicing me she was trying to figure out who was supposed to be working the jewelry counter.
One of the employees who was doing check out by the name of Devon who appeared to be a new employee attempted several times to call someone to help me and help the young lady who was trying to get away from the jewelry counter. As all of this is going on the line is still getting longer and I eventually had to stand in the line because the lady who was helping me walked away. When I when I take it to check out I asked Devon was his manager available and he called on the intercom for the manager who never came out. One employee who was helping me was distracted by another employee who walked in off the street just to check things out and see how everybody was and they walked in the back and never came back out, which left Devon out there on the floor by himself trying to figure it out.
I have never seen such unprofessionalism in all my days of visiting Goodwills, Which are usually in Sandy Springs or Buckhead area.
This was totally a different experience for me but if this is how you guys interact with your customers I will never be back.

- - A favorite got an antique dresser while I waited.
- - The dresser was taken back and not offered.
Wendy at Goodwilll plays favorites with her customers, she charges them $10. For a beautiful piece of furniture antique to top it off, beautiful chairs , I was there today waiting for something to come out, but once one of her favorites came into the store, she walked towards her and told her she has something for her, so she walked to the back of the store Wendy did to get her a beautiful antique dresser, something i was waiting for, so i said I'm getting it and the other lady said no I'm getting it!
Must be nice to just walk in and for Wendy to just hand off Isomething I've been waiting for all day , and to top it off she said it's only $10.
For her, I said I'm taking it, I've been here longer and I want it, Wendy took it back to the back and said you are not buying this, meaning me, she isnt fair with us people that really want nice stuff!! She waits for her favorites to come and then she brings it right out for them

Service animals in training are afforded the same rights as fully trained service animals. However, I find it hard to believe that someone who can't even spell simple words and makes horrible grammatical mistakes, is qualified to train a service animal!
You are only saying you were profiled because you just want to get your way and that is not how the world works. You can't manipulate others to get the things you want.
True. But that is for the trainer.
A potential owner/client would not be given an untrained animal. A service animal is trained to perform a specific task.
The OP literally says in the first sentence they are training their own puppy to be a service animal.
What you have is an emotional support dog and is not permitted in the store. Service animals are already trained before you receive them.
You were NOT DISCRIMINATED AGAINST.
You are NOT ENTITLED TO COMPENSATION. GET A JOB. If your service dog is barking obviously it is not trained.
